100 (Một Trăm) - Sống Lab

Located in Hue, Vietnam, Sống Lab is an immersive space where audiences can join and immerse in culture and visual art. “100”, the 3-minute video artwork, is constructed as a continuation of the “One Hundred Eggs” story in Vietnamese folktale. The story tells about the origin of Vietnamese people, which is from the love of a dragon (Lac Long Quan) and a fairy (Au Co). Au Co gave birth to one hundread eggs, and due to the differences in living environment, the offspring have to be divided into two groups. 50 children will follow Lac Long Quan to the ocean, and 50 children will be taken to the mountains with Au Co.

In this era, besides going to the mountains and down to the seas, we humans have accomplished many other extraordinary things, such as ascending to the sky, entering virtual space, reaching to the moon,... In each of these spaces, we have explored the infinite potential of human beings. For us, this artwork serves as an inspiration to continue breaking other limits of space, time or even spirituality and mentality.

CABE studio collaborated with CON – a culture icon of Vietnam youth culture. Inspired from Dong Ho painting, CON brings some fresh air to Vietnam’s traditional art and plays as a main character in the visual artwork.

We working on big scale artwork. It’s a challenge, also a chance for us to think further, how the audience can interact with the artwork itself.
